The Montreal Canadiens are out of the playoffs and for the majority of their roster that means an early summer vacation, however one Habs defensemen has a long way to go before he can begin to enjoy his time off.

On Wednesday the Canadiens confirmed that 31-year-old veteran defenseman Alexei Emelin went under the knife for corrective surgery to his damaged right knee. According to the Canadiens official website, Emelin underwent an arthroscopic procedure on the knee, and as a result he is expected to need anywhere from four to six weeks to make a full recovery.

Knee procedures for a player over the age of thirty are always both a short-term and long-term concern. and the Habs will have to wait a long time to see how this one may impact Emelin going forward.
