Will this happen?
There were more than a few predictions that the Montreal Canadiens were simply done for after it was announced that former Hart Trophy winning goaltender Carey Price's career could likely be over thanks to a nagging knee injury that cost him most of last season.
The goaltending duo of Jake Allen and Sam Montembeault in the Habs crease doesn't exactly strike fear in the hearts of opponents on paper, though Allen has performed about as well as anyone could have asked for, having stolen more than a few games for his team.
But could Habs general manager Kent Hughes be looking to add some depth in the crease? Don't be surprised to see it happen, according to La Presse reporter Mathias Brunet. The potential target? None other than Buffalo Sabres prospect Devon Levi:
"Mathias Brunet réagit à la l'information lancée par Max Truman selon laquelle le Canadien serait intéressé par Devon Levi et que le prix pour l'acquérir est élevé.
Il dit qu'il faut se méfier aux gardiens qui n'ont jamais joué dans la LNH."
Translation:
"Mathias Brunet reacts to the information launched by Max Truman according to which the Canadian would be interested in Devon Levi and that the price to acquire it is high. He says beware of goaltenders who have never played in the NHL."
Originally drafted 212th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft by the Florida Panthers, his rights were eventually dealt to the Sabres in exchange for Sam Reinhart. He's currently suiting up for the Northeastern University Huskies.
