Report: Bergevin suddenly has more money to spend, could make a splash!

After releasing veteran defenseman Mark Streit from his contract yesterday, the Montreal Canadiens find themselves with more cap space than ever.

On the hook for only 43 000$ off of his 700 000$ contract, Marc Bergevin now has almost 9 million dollars of space he can use to get much needed help with his team going 1-3-1 after 5 games.

This is a very unusual situation for the Habs as they are historically a team that constantly spend up to the cap so it is believed they could land an impact player in the very near future, with needs in the top-6 upfront and a top-4 defenseman.

According to reports, young forward Alex Galchenyuk and even team captain Max Pacioretty could be used as trade bait.
