New York Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault became the latest person to mock the Penguins medical staff following the mumps diagnosis of his player Derick Brassard. Many questioned the Penguins medical staff after they failed to diagnosis Crosby with what seemed like an obvious case of the mumps. However Vigneault went one step furthering, outright suggesting that Crosby may have been the reason Brassard contracted the virus. Vigneault spoke to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News and said this:
"Maybe it’s because we played against Pittsburgh on Monday and he goes head-to-head against Sid. Maybe Sid gave it to ‘em."
Crosby was diagnosed with the mumps on Sunday days after many in the media had suggested he had the virus. The Monday encounter Vigneault is referring to is the Rangers 4-3 win over the Penguins at Madison Square Garden. We doubt that Vigneault is sincere in his belief that Crosby infected his player, but maybe he really is taking a jab at a Penguins medical staff that has had it's handling of Crosby questioned in the past.
