Report: Hertl and Meier were almost traded to the Blues

Guessing the Blues would love to have these two on their team right now.

If you’re not watching Game 2 of the Western Conference Final between the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis blues right now, do yourself a favor and flip the game on. It’s an absolute beauty.

During the first intermission of tonight’s game, Sportsnet analyst and former longtime NHL executive Brian Burke shared a story about Sharks forward Timo Meier and how he ALMOST became a member of the Blues.

You see, back at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft the Sharks held the 9th overall pick, but they were desperately seeking a shakeup to their group. According to Burke, Sharks GM Doug Wilson and Blues GM Doug Armstrong had a deal in place that would have sent the 9th overall pick to the Blues in exchange for forward T.J. Oshie and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk. But, once Meier was available to the Sharks at 9th overall, Wilson passed on the deal to select the Swiss sniper.

Oshie, of course, was dealt to the Washington Capitals later that summer while Shattenkirk would remain with the Blues for another two seasons.
