This is usually a very exciting time of year for fans of the National Hockey League but unfortunately we have some very sad news to report.

According to an announcement from the New York Rangers Hockey Hall of Fame member Andy Bathgate has passed away. Bathgate had an incredible career that spanned 17 years at a time when hockey was a far more ruthless sport, and he was extremely successful over that stretch. Bathgate was a two time first team All-Star, a former Hart Trophy Winner in 1959, a Stanley Cup Champion in 1964, and as mentioned before he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978.

While Bathgate played for several teams during his career including the Leafs, Canucks, Penguins, and the Red Wings, he will most likely be best remember for his time as a member of the New York Rangers this despite winning his only Cup as a Leaf.

A fun little side note to try and put a positive spin on things, Andy is survived by members of his family including his grandson who bears his name, Andy Bathgate, and is currently playing as a member of the Columbus Cottonmouths in the SPHL.

Our condolences go out to the Bathgate family.
