Report: Islanders offered young star for Tavares
Keystone Press

New York Islanders legend Mike Bossy made waves across the NHL yesterday with his words on Montreal radio station 91.9 Sports regarding a potential trade between the Isles and the Montreal Canadiens.

Bossy’s exact quote, translated from French reads essentially, “I heard that Galchenyuk was offered to the Islanders.” Interesting. So, what could this mean? Well, in his latest article for Eyes on Isles, blogger Matt O’Leary wonders whether the offer was made as part of a package to land superstar centerman John Tavares.

Alex Galchenyuk may not be John Tavares, but he’s still a valuable player with decent upside. The 23-year-old former 3rd overall pick scored a career high 30 goals and 56 points just one season ago and could blossom into a regular 30+ goal, 60+ point player if given an opportunity in Brooklyn. Then again, those numbers on their own aren’t likely to replace Tavares. So, if a deal were to move forward with these two parts, the Habs would likely have to pony up more assets to entice Isles GM Garth Snow.
