Report: Jagr makes surprising admission about Flames contract negotiations

Just how serious were the contract discussions between Jaromir Jagr and the St Louis Blues? Pretty serious. So, just how close was he to choosing the Blues over the Calgary Flames?

“You know what, it was very close. Very close,” Jagr said Monday. “It just didn’t happen. I had to make a decision in probably two, three hours, and I made this decision.”

And we’re so happy you did, Jags! The money was reportedly the same from both teams, so what was it that put the Flames over the top?

“At my age, I felt very comfortable to go somewhere where at least I know somebody as a coach,” Jagr said. “Plus, I never played in Canada, so I wanted to try it.”

There you have it. Unless St Louis somehow managed to move to Canada, they were never really in the running. Frankly, whatever his reasons we’re just happy that Jagr ended up in Cowtown.
