Reimer has reportedly turned down offers from other teams.
Dennis Hildeby is the new hotness in Toronto.
Just like Joseph Woll before him.
Just like Anthony Stolarz before him.
Just like Ilya Samsonov before him.
Just like Jack Campbell before him.
Just like Frederik Andersen before him.
You see where I'm going with this?
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a history of inconsistency between the pipes and injuries to both Woll and Stolarz have brought that to the forefront this season. Sure, Hildeby is holding it down right now but where's the safety net?
Enter: The OG Hotness James Reimer.
NHL insider David Pagnotta reports that Reimer and Leafs GM Brad Treliving have been in contact since Reimer was released from his PTO contract with the team in pre-season. More than that, Pagnotta reports that Reimer has turned down other offers this season and that he's waiting for the right spot... presumably in Toronto.
From Pagnotta:
Veteran goaltender James Reimer is keeping in game shape, should an NHL opportunity arise. The free agent has kept in touch with the Toronto Maple Leafs since being released from his PTO in October, but the two sides have not spoken recently. He turned down some offers this season, per sources, and is waiting for the right spot. And for those curious, the Edmonton Oilers have not reached out.
So... what are you waiting for?
The Leafs' two top goalies are out with injury. If ever there was a time to parachute a veteran like Reimer in, the time would be now. If the Leafs haven't inked Reimer yet, I can't see them doing it at all this season.
