If you were hoping that the Calgary Flames and Johnny Gaudreau would get their deal worked out sooner rather than later you might want to stop reading at this point.

A recent report from Postmedia writer Michaeal Traikos has revealed that although Gaudreau had made it clear he wouldn't be talking contract during the World Cup, he's accelerated that deadline and now won't be taking money until at least the end of the tournament.

"I don’t think I’m speaking to my agent for the next 15 to 20 days,” said Gaudreau. “End of tournament, see where it goes.”

It's worth noting that this could simply be a way for Gaudreau to exert pressure on his organization, after all they will have a very short time between the end of the World Cup tournament and the start of the regular season to get his deal done. It may also simply be a result of Gaudreau wishing to limit his distractions during a tournament.

When teammate Sean Monahan was signed to a new deal most believed Gaudreau would follow very quickly, but that has not been the case and this length of a delay is starting to raise some serious question as to why it's been so long. The Flames however do have once ace up their sleeve however, a quirk in the CBA protects them from the potential of an offer sheet from a rival team, although there's no doubt they want Gaudreau on the ice come the start of the regular season.

This one sounds likes its far from over.
