Report: Keith wants to be the next Jagr

There is a world of differences between Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith and NHL veteran and future Hall of Fame Jaromir Jagr, but they might one day have something in common.

In an interview with the Chicago Sun Times, Keith admitted that he wants to play in the NHL until he is 45 years old.

‘‘I want to play till I’m 45’’ Keith said bluntly. ‘‘Honestly.’’

‘‘Eleven more years,’’ he said. ‘‘I feel like I’m 22 right now; I do. I’m 34, and I feel great. I feel better than I did at times when I was 27, 28.’’

Only five players have played an NHL game at age 45 or older. Gordie Howe played until he was 52 and Chris Chelios until he was 48. Goalies Maurice Roberts and Johnny Bower played at 45, and Jagr is 45 and is playing with the Calgary Flames.

‘‘I have a lot of fun, and I feel good,’’ Keith added.

Now 34 years old, Keith is hoping to play for 11 more years. So far this season with the Hawks, the veteran defender has recorded 11 assists in 21 games.

How about that!
