The Toronto Maple Leafs have to be getting used to being without forward Joffrey Lupul. Fresh off a one game absence on Wednesday due to a leg injury, Lupul was surprised to discover he had broken a bone in his hand at practice. Lupul apparently "jammed a knuckle", but did not realize the extent of the injury until X-rays came back positive. He was hours from participating in last night's game, but now finds himself out indefinitely. Lupul's durability has always been a question mark as he is often injured, leaving the rest of the team holding the bag. So is this just a case of bad luck? Possibly, but that changes little in the outcome. In addition, the usually productive Lupul is slumping out of the gate, recording no points in the last 5 games. Although Lupul stated: 'I certainly didn't expect anything was wrong', the frequency of his ailments is becoming far too common. His history of injuries can not be ignored, bad luck or otherwise. Hopefully this time Lupul can fully recover and remain healthy for the rest of the season, otherwise the Leafs will continue to be saddled with a lame duck. A very expensive one at that.
