The Toronto Maple Leafs like many teams are contemplating buyouts at this time of the season with the goal of saving cap space.

However today, despite the fact that it was widely reported that the Leafs had bought out defenseman Jared Cowen, it now appears that buyout is being contested by Cowen.

TSN's James Mirtle is reporting that Cowen, who has never played a game for the Leafs, is attempting to argue that due to the fact that he is currently injured, he is not eligible to be bought out by the Leafs. Furthermore according to Mirtle Cowen has $3 million on the line here, so it's clear what his motivation is in this situation.

More to come.
