Report: Leafs' season to be decided in December?
KeyStone Press

The 17-9-1 Toronto Maple Leafs are among the league's best teams through the first 2 months of the season, but that could all change as the month of December rolls on.

Travis Yost's graph indicates that the Leafs likely have the most difficult schedule in the entire NHL in the month of December - with a huge part of that being attributed to the strength of their competition, and alarming number of road games.

Their 10 games on the road in December are the most out of any team. Add to that four back-to-back sequences throughout the month and you have all the makings of a harrowing month of hockey.

The Leafs are currently on pace for 106 points, but for that to happen, they will have to sustain their impressive play through a very difficult stretch on the calendar.

This month could very well define their season - will they falter as the rigours of this difficult schedule weigh down on them, or will they persevere through it? Will they be able to keep up the mental aspect of the game as the endless travel hours accumulate? And how will the fans and media treat the team if they do indeed hit a rough patch?

This has all the makings of a huge month for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
