The Toronto Maple Leafs are back to the drawing board after yet another early exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the franchise has already made a major move with the termination of head coach Sheldon Keefe and the hiring of Craig Berube as his replacement.
Meanwhile, there has been rampant speculation with regard to the future of forward Mitch Marner with the Leafs, and even a report that he allegedly submitted a nine-team trade list to general manager Brad Treliving. But according to The Leafs Nation's Nick Alberga, who also serves as host of "Leafs Morning Take", that didn't happen.
Additionally, The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta appeared to confirm Alberga's report with a one-word response:
Even so, the long-term future of Marner with the Maple Leafs is up in the air. He's set to enter the final year of his current contract, and is due for a hefty extension.
Not long after the Leafs season ended at the hands of the Boston Bruins, Marner caused quite the stir while saying that he would prefer to remain with the franchise due to the fact that they're regarded as "gods":
“We’re looked upon as, you know, kind of gods here to be honest,” Marner said. “Something that you really appreciate and the love that you get here from this fan base and this attention is unlike any other. You saw with the Raps a couple years ago (when the Toronto Raptors won the NBA championship in 2019), the love that they still have for a lot of those players … That’s kind of the love you want.”
