Report: Midwest city on NHL expansion radar
Quebec City? Seattle? Take a back seat, there’s a new expansion target in the NHL’s plans.

A surprising report from ESPN this morning has hockey fans in Quebec City and Seattle up in arms this morning. Why? The sports media giant released excerpts from an email between itself and NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly in which the former admitted that the league is considering Kansas City as a potential expansion target.
Check it out:
"Kansas City has never been entirely 'off our radar screen,'" wrote Daly in the email. "We have talked to potentially interested stakeholders in the past, and it's certainly a market that in the right circumstances (including a desire by our board to entertain further expansion) our league would fairly evaluate and consider.”
Interesting. NHL fans may remember that Kansas City was rumored to be a landing spot for the Pittsburgh Penguins when they struggled financially in the early 2000s. While that move never happened, the NHL expected the city to take a run at the expansion process in 2015 when, ultimately, Vegas was granted a franchise. The city elected not to, but apparently still remains high on the NHL’s list of potential locations.
