Report: Milan Lucic turned down a bigger offer before signing with Edmonton.

When Milan Lucic said today that it came down to the wire and that Connor McDavid played a factor in his decision it appears that he was not lying.

There are now multiple reports that claim Lucic was offered another deal, one worth more money than the 7 years with an average annual value of $7 million he received from the Oilers, and he rejected the offer.

In fact TSN's James Mirtle is reporting that he received confirmation from Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli that Lucic was offered more term and money but turned it down to remain in Edmonton. 

According to a report from Nicholas Martineau of TVA Sports the team that made that offer was the Montreal Canadiens, although just how much was offered was not revealed by Martineau.

While the Canadiens would of course not confirm these reports, Habs general manager Marc Bergevin made an interesting comment today that appeared to indicate the rumors are in fact true.

"He made a decision based on his relationship with Peter Chiarelli, but Montreal was a place that really intrigued him,” said Bergevin on Lucic as per Arpon Basu.
