Report: more signs point to where Tavares will end up!
KeyStone Press

When New York Islanders franchise center John Tavares recorded his seventh career hat trick and a four-point night in a victory over the Arizona Coyotes, rivals teams were salivating.

As you know, Tavares is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer as both sides haven’t come to an agreement on signing an extension. If it remains as is, the 26-year-old will hit the market next July, and every rival team will want to bring him into the fold.

Then came the saga of the new arena, as the Isles are amongst the three bidders for land at Belmont Park, where they hope to build a new arena move from the Barclays Center. It has been reported that Tavares wants to know what will happen with this specific project before signing long term in New York.

According to Coyotes beat writer Craig Morgan, who posted this on Fanrag Sports, rivals teams need to stop dreaming. Tavares will remain with the Islanders since the decision on the arena will come in January. In time to sign Tavares before the Trade Deadline.

"Assuming the Islanders have a new arena — and that is a widespread assumption in NHL circles — there’s no reason for him to leave and there are few teams that can afford him under the league’s flatlining salary cap," writes Morgan.

One thing is for sure, Isles management, Tavares himself and fans have expressed the desire to keep the captain in New York so… it just needs to be signed on the dotted line.
