A number of National Hockey League team's are trying to poach one of Calgary's former first round draft picks, but it sounds like there is some serious hesitation from the Flames.

21-year-old Sam Bennett has not registered a single point this season despite playing in 14 games already and to make matters worse he has a plus minus rating of -5 on the season. Obviously this is not the kind of production you would expect from a player who was selected 4th overall in the NHL Entry Draft.

It looks like team's around the league smell blood in the water as a result, and on Tuesday TSN insider Bob McKenzie revealed that multiple NHL teams have been calling the Flames about a potential trade for Bennett.

"Teams are calling the Flames and asking about Bennett, but there's wide gap between Calgary perception of value versus teams calling," said McKenzie.

Obviously with his abysmal start to the season team's are hoping to get a bargain on Bennett, however it appears that the Flames are not particularly desperate to trade him and it doesn't sound like anything other than a significant offer would get them to budge.

Should Bennett continue to struggle however it will only diminish his value, all the while increasing the Flames frustration with his current level of play. You have to wonder if something won't give sooner rather than later.
