UPDATE: It appears that now Labanc will play tonight for the Sharks against the Boston Bruins. So... maybe he's not on waivers? Again, it's not entirely clear.

Read below for our earlier report on this developing story.

According to a report from NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the San Jose Sharks will be placing forward Kevin Labanc on waivers.

The 27 year old forward has been a healthy scratch for all of the Sharks' three games so far this season and is in the final year of a deal that pays him nearly $5 million per season. He managed to put up 15 goals and 33 points in 72 games last season.

Honestly... I could see someone making a claim on Labanc.

Sure, he's overpaid at $4.725 million per season but he's in the final year of his deal and is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason. I could see a team with some cap space taking a chance on him for the rest of the season. He's a former 50+ point scorer at the NHL level and he's proven that he has top end skill, especially in the right situation.

Stay tuned.
