Former NHLer sh*t disturber turned media sh*t disturber Sean Avery raised some eyebrows on social media earlier this week when he reported that NHL head office employees in New York City will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or they risk losing their paycheck.

Check it out:

Now, if you think I'm going to wade into the online vaccination debate, you're crazy. Social media posts like Avery's have a way of bringing out the absolute craziest individuals from both sides of the debate. All I'll say is that you should make the best decision for your own personal health, the health of your family and the health of your community.

As for the NHL though, this decision could prove controversial. Certainly there will be some employees who opt to take the vaccine just so they can keep their job. Is that ethical? For a giant corporation like the NHL to coerce you into making a decision on your personal health? Again, regardless of your opinion on the matter this decision itself is going to pit employees against each other during a time when the league should be coming together to help build the sport back up after a difficult two seasons.

In any case, it'll be interesting to see whether or not Avery's assertions get any response from NHL commissioner Gary Bettman or deputy commissioner Bill Daly. I have a hard time believing that this policy is true, but it's not awfully different from some of the policies we're seeing other corporations make in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
