Report: NHL insider links former 3rd overall draft pick to Sens

Making an appearance on Edmonton’s 630 CHED radio station this morning, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman discussed possible trade destinations for Colorado Avalanche star Matt Duchene and floated the possibility of the Ottawa Senators making a strong push in acquiring his services.

“You know, I’ll tell you – the one team I wonder about is Ottawa,” said Friedman. “Like, they got the taste this year, right? They have to sign Kyle Turris in a year. They have to sign Karlsson in two years. Duchene has two years left. I don’t know if they’re going to be able to fit it all in, but I could see if Ottawa wants to go for it… they sniffed around Duchene. I’m curious to see if they’re going to get back in it.”

It’s an interesting proposition for sure, especially when you consider that Sens’ top center Kyle Turris will need a new contract in the near future. How good would a Sens offense led by Duchene and Turris look for 2017-18? While the rumor is currently just that, a rumor, don’t sleep on the Sens. General manager Pierre Dorion could be aggressive this summer in his pursuit of avenging this year’s Eastern Conference Final loss.
