As talks between the restricted free agent forward and the Detroit Red Wings remain at an impasse, Andreas Athanasiou’s agent keeps claiming that his client is seriously considering significant offers from unnamed KHL clubs.
According to NHL Insider Darren Dreger of TSN, it may be more than that. His report states that the 23-year-old is in ongoing discussions with KHL teams. And that unless general manager Ken Holland does something, Athanasiou will jump to KHL.
In 64 games with the Wings last season, Athanasiou recorded 18 goals and 29 points.
Should the Red Wings lose Athanasiou for nothing, that could be the final straw for Red Wings GM Ken Holland... Let's see if he is finally ready to blink first.
