With the NHL's Board of Governors (BOG) meetings happening this week at the league's head offices in New York City, NY, there's plenty on the docket for league brass to sort out. There's the issue of the 2023-24 salary cap, increasing ticket and television revenues and logistics for a proposed 2024 World Cup to sort out.
Regarding that World Cup, it appears that not all of the NHL's players are keen on the idea of Russian participation in the event, presumably because of the country's decision to invade Ukraine. The Russian Hockey Federation has been subject to several sanctions, mostly from the IIHF, as a result of their military's invasion of Ukraine this year.

I can only assume that the loudest protests are coming from former Soviet occupied countries like Czechia and Slovakia but I have no proof to substantiate that theory. In any case, here's hoping that this awful war is over long before the 2024 World Cup is even on the general public's radar.
