One of the saddest stories we have heard about all year is that of NHLer Nathan Horton. Horton was diagnosed with a degenerative back disorder. Horton was told that if he did not retire and submit to surgery, he would live with a lifetime of agony. Horton was given the choice of retiring at the young age of 29, or sacrifice his well being, for the love of the game. It appeared as if the end was near for Horton. Well according to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch, joined the Columbus Blue Jackets on their road trip through Florida this week and apparently Horton had a "little light in his eye". It is believed Hortons' hockey career may not yet be over with. President of hockey operations  John Davidson said: "There's been some progress there. He is feeling a little better,"  "I don't know what that means in the big picture, but he's better now than he was earlier this season. His whole attitude was different - better - than the last time we saw him." Horton has yet to officially announce his decision whether to go ahead with surgery or continue his career. This decision has been a tumultuous one for him. "I don't want to live with this pain, but I don't want to make that decision," the forward told Portzline in November. "It's hard for me to say that, at 29 years old, I’m done. I mean, really? Done at 29?" For their part, the Blue Jackets have never given up hope for a possible return. "In my heart, I've always believed he's going to play again," head coach Todd Richards said. "I still feel that way." It is difficult what to make of this. Of course we all hope that Horton can resume his career and live his dreams fully. But at what cost?
