According to Metro Ottawa, the Ottawa Senators are set to make a major announcement regarding the team's participation in "Ottawa 2017", the celebration of Canada's 150th birthday. Senators president Cyril Leeder will make the announcement with Ottawa's mayor Jim Watson and some member of Ottawa 2017 board also present in the attendance. The Senators' press release doesn't state the nature of the announcement, but Metro Ottawa reports that it will be an outdoor game against the Montreal Canadiens to be played in December 2017. Watson has met with Gary Bettman regarding the possibility of hosting an outdoor game in Canada's capital city last October. According to Metro, the game wouldn't only commemorate the Country's 150th birthday, but also the NHL's 100th. The original Senators and the Habs played in the league's opening night in December 1917 and the goal would be to play the game exactly 100 years later. It would be Montreal's third appearance in an outdoor game, playing against the Oilers in 2003 and the Flames in 2011. The Senators played outdoor against the Canucks in 2014.
