After the first day of Free Agency on Wednesday morning, free agent forward Nikolaj Ehlers was still available with plenty suitors trying to land his services.
As he’s been exploring the market, Ehlers was reportedly down “to a few teams” per insider Chris Johnston. Frank Seravalli had then hinted at the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals.
Ehlers is coming off of a 2024-25 season that saw him record 24 goals and 53 points in 69 games with the Winnipeg Jets , en route to winning the Presidents’ Trophy. He added five goals and seven points in eight playoff games before his team was eliminated by the Dallas Stars in the second round of the postseason. He is coming off a seven-year, $42 million contract that carried a cap hit of $6 million.
After spending all of his career with the Jets, where he was selected ninth overall in 2014 and collected 225 goals and 520 points in 674 career games, Ehlers will likely get a new start elsewhere. Stay tuned.
