The Oilers have been looking for ways to improve their defense since the season ended and they did come up with a few solutions this summer.

On Saturday the Oilers announced the latest step they have taken to shoring up their blue line depth, announcing that they had agreed to terms on a two year deal with right-handed shooting defenseman Matthew Benning, nephew of National Hockey League general manager Jim Benning.

Benning was originally drafted in the 6th round of the 2012 NHL entry draft, but went unsigned out of college and it appears former Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli believes his former draft pick can bring something to the table.

It's unclear how much use he will see this upcoming season.
