Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli is on the hot seat, more so, he knows it. A couple of weeks ago Chiarelli commented on the scrutiny his team is under this season. “Whether it’s Cam or Charlie who said we’re all under review, I understand that,” Chiarelli told the newspaper. “We’ve had a lot of success here in my tenure and Claude’s tenure. We’re having a down year. It’s unfortunate that we’re under review for one year. But I understand. We’ve got to make things better.” Many fans have been calling for a complete revamp of the Bruins front office, as this year has been very disappointing for the perennial contenders. However there is one Eastern GM who believes that Chiarelli does not deserve the blame he has been receiving as of late. This GM told TSN’s Darren Dreger: “I can’t believe the heat he’s taking – it’s ridiculous. … There’s no question Chiarelli (if he were to be fired) would have a chance to work as soon as he wanted to.” If this so called expert believes that Chiarelli does not deserve this heat, let's weigh what he has done in his tenure. Chiarelli has been extremely successful with this team, at least on paper. Stanley Cup champions in 2011, finalists in 2013 and Presidents’ Trophy winners in 2014. However he has made some risky moves that have proven detrimental to this organization as well. Trading away Tyler Seguin and Johnny Boychuk, have left a bad taste in many fans mouths. Boston’s drafting under his watch has been questionable as well, with the exception of David Pastrnak. With his team in dire need of a performer that could push this team into the playoffs, Chiarelli could only manage to acquire Max Talbot and Brett Connolly at the NHL trade deadline this year. The so calle "cap-crunch" that left Chiarelli without options was completely self imposed. As a result, this team may miss the playoffs and Chiarelli might be out of a job. However, it is this GM’s belief that, should Chiarelli lose his job, “He’s a guy who would have enough interest from other teams, he will be able to sit and wait until there’s a right fit and there will be more than one offer.” So I have one question for you Bruins fans, does Chiarelli deserve the beating he's been getting in the media as of late?
