The Toronto Maple Leafs have been faring just fine in Auston Matthews' unexpectedly lengthy absence - but everyone wants the bonafide superstar back in the lineup, and he's inching ever closer to that anticipated return.
Matthews skated today again with the team, slotting in once again on the top line center position.
Matthews has been out since November 7th with an upper-body injury. He resumed practicing with his teammates on Wednesday on the very same line as he practiced on today, but was ruled out of Thursday night's contest against the New Jersey Devils.
His status is still uncertain for the Leafs' bout against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.
It's great to see him practicing on his regular line and that he is feeling better and better. If a return doesn't happen Saturday, it's not the end of the world - the Leafs have been putting together win after win despite him not being in the lineup.
