Report: Over a dozen teams linked to Habs in trade speculation
Keystone Press

It’s no secret that Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin has been working the trade phones this season. The Habs boss is reportedly looking to add another top-six center and is using forward Alex Galchenyuk as potential trade bait. Then… there are the crazy Carey Price rumors.

And while it doesn’t look like a deal is imminent, the Habs had a staggering 17 scouts from across the league taking in their recent game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. That’s… not normal. In the press box that night:

Wow. The most intriguing teams to us? The Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers. Each of these teams has the assets to acquire a player like Galchenyuk, but the real question is who will step up in this feeding frenzy?

The Penguins don’t really have a top-six center to move, but with all the trade speculation surrounding winger Phil Kessel, things could get REAL interesting. The Leafs, of course, have Tyler Bozak and James van Riemsdyk on the block, but would the bitter rivals actually hook up on a divisional deal? The Rangers are in a similar position as the Habs after a disappointing start to the season. Head coach Alain Vigneault seems to be growing tired of center Kevin Hayes, is there a potential Hayes for Galchenyuk swap there?

Regardless of what happens with the Habs and Galchenyuk expect these rumors to continue so long as a dozen or more scouts show up to each game.
