Yesterday’s roster moves by the Pittsburgh Penguins could have major implications for the team’s game tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Pens assigned Casey DeSmith, Andrey Pedan and Garrett Wilson to their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, but elected to recall no one.

According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Jason Mackey, the demotions of Pedan and Wilson likes means that “either Kris Letang, Justin Schultz or both are healthy enough to return to the lineup”. Excellent news for Penguins fans. DeSmith’s demotion of course was due to the return of starting goaltender Matt Murray.

The team will hit the ice at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia later this morning and its expected that head coach Mike Sullivan will have a full update on the status of both Letang and Schultz. Stay tuned, Pens fans.
