A lot of teams were chasing him until now.
The Rangers are still battling the Senators in their second round series, but scouting and roster management is still actively happening. We just learned the team is very close from singing promising prospect Neal Pionk to an entry level contract.
Pionk was highly coveted. Interestingly, the 21 years old has never been drafted even though he showed excellent statistics. This year, with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, the youngster earned 34 points in 42 games and was a +24.
Of course, the college level is a far cry from the NHL and the kid will have to earn his spot. However, you never have enough offensively skilled defenseman and Pionk will potentially add a lot of depth to the roster.
