New York Islanders captain John Tavares is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in 2018, and several rumors already have him wearing a different jersey next season.
Isles management have tried to reassure fans by saying ownership would not let the face of the franchise hit the free market, but Tavares stated that things are more complicated than people realize.
Finally some good news on the first day of training camp. Tavares told NHL.com's Brian Compton that he is willing to negotiate terms of an extension during the regular season.
There is now a window of time for both parties to agree on a contract extension.
But now, the countdown to July 1st has official started too...
