It's like Christmas Eve for hockey fans and you can feel the excitement in the air, and make no mistake about it, the teams and the players feel it too.

With that in mind the Red Wings have revealed that they will be going all out to emerge victorious in Game 1 of the playoffs, and hopefully in their first round serious, and that includes reuniting two of the teams veterans, forwards Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk.

It was head coach Jeff Blashill who made the official announcement when speaking to Bill Roose of the Red Wings official website.

“In the end those two guys play well off of each other,” Blashill said. “They think the game very similar. They play the game very similar. I think today’s hockey has become very much north south but they’re two guys who still like to play east to west. So when they’re together, it might accentuate their positives a little better. The decision I always have to make is that the right thing for the hockey team in its entirety. Right now we’ve made the decision that it’s the right thing to start here most likely in Game 1.”

Fans in Detroit won't need to wait long if the gamble pays off, the playoffs are now just minutes away.
