There was talk of a potential retirement last week, and frankly Red Wing fans seemed happy about it, however it appears now that won't be happening.

According to a report from Helen St. James of The Detroit Free Press veteran forward Daniel Cleary has thought long and hard about his future, and has made the decision to continue playing hockey, even if it's at the AHL level.

Cleary had refused to report to the team's AHL affiliate last week when he initially cleared waivers, but he says a talk with general manager Ken Holland put things in perspective for him.

"We talked about what I wanted to do, how I feel," Cleary said. "I took some time to think about things, and this is the position I came to.

"I have a lot of passion for the game. I love being a Red Wing. I loved playing in Detroit."

Many feel Cleary only got his current deal because of an unwritten agreement he made when he turned down a major contract offer from the Flyers. That the Wings would sign him for just under one million dollars, and immediately waive him seems to indicate as much.
