Despite what was an ultimately disappointing setback at the hands of the Atlantic Division rival Ottawa Senators last night, this will be news to the ears of Detroit Red Wings fans everywhere.

According to a report from NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Red Wings and defenseman Jake Walman are believed to be heading towards a contract extension:

Walman, who has been a revelation for the Red Wings since his return to the lineup in November from offseason surgery, is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at this season's end.

Currently the defensive partner of reigning Calder Trophy winner Moritz Seider, he's scored five goals with five assists in 2022-23 along with a team best +17 plus minus rating. His cap hit for this season is $1,050,000.
