Joe Sakic took quite some time to swing the Matt Duchene deal. We had been waiting over a year - but it finally happened, and Sakic admittedly came out a winner in the long-term with the haul of picks and players he received.
One of said players, Andrew Hammond, affectionately known as 'The Hamburglar' in Ottawa, doesn't figure to be part of the Colorado Avalanche's plans.
The goalie isn't even reporting to the team's AHL club - he'll stay with the Senators' affiliate in Belleville.
Hammond will never be forgotten for his 20-1-2 record in 2014-15, the year where he was dubbed with his famous nickname.
The following season he went 7-11-4 and hasn't had a place in the NHL since, in part due to major injury issues.
He may still be an NHL goalie yet, but Joe Sakic doesn't intend on keeping him, and will flip him in short order.
Hammond has a cap hit of $1.35 million through the end of the season, after which he is set to become a free agent.
