Report: Saros and Predators closing in on a deal

The latest from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.

UPDATE: TSN insider Chris Johnston has confirmed Friedman's earlier report and is now reporting that Saros will sign an eight year deal worth $7.5 million per season on July 1st.

From Johnston:

According to a report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Nashville Predators and goaltender Juuse Saros are closing in on an eight year deal that we keen the Vezina Trophy winning netminder in the Music City.

From Friedman:

Friedman reports that the deal is in the $7 - $8 million range per season on an eight year deal. Saros turns 30 this upcoming season, so the deal will take him until he is 38 years old. That's a lot of money to be paying an aging goaltender, but there's no denying that here and now at 29 years old that Saros is a $7 - $8 million goaltender. Given the Predators' spot in the standings and with young talent coming up, I'm not sure this is the wisest investment. If nothing else it'll be interesting to see what happens now with top goaltending prospect Yaroslav Askarov.

Stay tuned for official confirmation of the deal from the Predators.
