It once looked like his NHL career was over.
For many it seemed like the 2011-2012 season was the death knell for the career of veteran NHL forward Scott Gomez.
Gomez, who was playing for the Montreal Canadiens at the time was run out of time by the media and the fans after he failed to live up to the massive expectations behind him after he left New Jersey to sign with the Habs as a free agent. Gomez would eventually be bought out of his contract and it seemed like he was all but done.
However Gomez has proven to be the ultimate underdog, somehow managing to find a spot on an NHL roster every year since the buyout, including making the Devils roster last year only several games into their season.
Now he's done it again, this time after a PTO with the St. Louis Blues, Gomez has once again worked his way into an NHL contract, despite the fact that many believed he only got the try out because of his buddy Martin Brodeur.
Once again he's proving many doubters, including this writer, wrong.
