Further to this morning’s report from Ottawa Sun journalist Bruce Garrioch, it’s expected that Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion will try to make a trade before next Tuesday’s NHL holiday trade freeze.

In particular Garrioch reports that Dorion has received plenty of interest on forwards Mike Hoffman, Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Derick Brassard, as well as defenseman Cody Ceci. Interesting given then fact that the team committed big money and four years to Hoffman just one year ago and the fact that the team refused to include Ceci in any recent trade discussions. Does this signify that the Sens are ready to throw the towel in on the season and rebuild for 2017-18?

One thing’s for sure, whichever teams manages to add Hoffman or Pageau to their roster will be adding some top-level speed and goalie scoring ability. So, who might be these teams that are interested? The Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks and Boston Bruins have all been rumored to be on the look out for scoring help, might there be a fit there?

Regardless of what ends up happening between now and next Tuesday, it’s clear that the times are changing in Ottawa.
