Fans who were hoping to see their favorite team add a talented forward prior to the deadline are starting to see the number of available players dwindle. First arguably the hottest prize on the market Ryan Johansen was acquired by the Predators, and now Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been seriously injured.

It was revealed late last week that the Oilers had previously attempted to deal Nugent-Hopkins to the Predators in a bid to acquire Seth Jones, and according to multiple reports the Oilers were still looking to move him. Obviously that will no longer be the case.

Johansen paid a heavy price Monday when he blocked a shot from Florida Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov, his hand appeared to take the brunt of the shot and it's believed that was the cause of the injury.

While no timeline has been announced as of this writing, the Oilers have confirmed Nugent-Hopkins will be out long term with a hand injury.
