The San Jose Sharks had a very busy Friday and that meant a lot of bad news for now former members of the roster. First Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada announced that the team had placed Adam Burish on waivers for the purpose of buying out his contract with the team, effectively putting an end to his time with the Sharks. Later in the day Sharks general manager Doug Wilson announced that he would be cutting ties with veteran free agents John Scott and Scott Hannan. According to Yahoo! Sports Wilson intends to take the team in a different direction, a direction that doesn't have room for either Scott or Hannan.
''The decision is the style of play that we want to play probably precludes him from getting the opportunity to play,'' Wilson said.
These two names may not be the last casualties in San Jose either, Wilson indicated that he's prepared to let two more players, goaltender Anti Niemi and defenseman Matt Irwin, leave in free agency if necessary
''They would like to be here, but unrestricted free agency is a two-way street,'' Wilson said. ''It has to be a match for us.''.
We may be looking at a much different San Jose Sharks team next season.
