A new captain after last season's controversy.
The San Jose Sharks caused quite the controversy last season when they announced that Joe Thornton had been stripped of his captaincy.
The news wasn't particularly well received by Thornton who learned of the news through the press, after general manager Doug Wilson notified season ticket holders, and followed that up by blasted Wilson in the press. In fact things got so heated in San Jose that many wondered if the friction would lead to the termination of Wilson, given that Thornton is completely protected via a no movement clause in his contract.
However the story eventually settled down, and on Monday the San Jose Sharks introduced 10 year veteran Joe Pavelski as their newest captain. Pavelski seems like a logical fit, he has after all spent all 10 years of his career as a Shark recording over 450 points in that stretch.
Thornton will now wear an "A" on his jersey alongside the Sharks other alternate Logan Couture.
