Report: Stars aren’t done making big moves yet

TSN reporter and NHL insider Darren Dreger broke the news of the Marc Methot trade yesterday, so there’s little doubt that he’s tapped into a reliable source with the Dallas Stars. Which makes his latest report, even more interesting:

Williams, who is 35 years-old, will become an unrestricted free-agent on July 1st, unless signed by his current team, the Washington Capitals, beforehand. While the fit may not be apparent at first blush given Williams’ age and declining production, it makes total sense when considering the Stars’ need for secondary offense.

In 80 games in 2016-17, Williams scored 24 goals and 48 points, proving that he still has much to offer even at age 35. Combine this with the fact that he’s a proven winner with three Stanley Cups and a Conn Smythe Trophy and he could help take a talented Stars team to the next level.
