That's one way to start the season...

The Colorado Avalanche were a disaster last season. Even with stars such as Nathan MacKinnon and Matt Duchene, the team only registered 48 points in 2016-17 -- a 21-year low for the franchise.

Things aren't off to a great start this time around.

According to a series of tweets, starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov lashed out at a rookie during the team's practice scrimmage this morning.

While the scrimmage obviously isn't being televised or streamed, several fans attending the event provided eye-witness accounts of what transpired.

We likely won't get video of the incident, but Varlamov has been known for having a temper. The 29-year-old is fresh off another off-season surgery and will have the net again in 2017-2018 after losing it to Calvin Pickard last year.
