The Philadelphia Flyers' chances of making it into the playoffs are slim to none with nine games left on the schedule and a ten point gap separating the Flyers from a playoff birth. With the team not meeting expectations, a lot of bad blood has spilled off the ice, some of which has revolved around goaltender Steve Mason. On Thursday, the goaltender was yanked in a strange move against the Calgary Flames after allowing two goals on 16 shots. With the team holding a players-only meeting, Mason wanted to make it clear that his relationship with head coach Craig Berube is fine. "There's no animosity or anything like that between Chief and I," Mason told Frank Seravalli of Philly.com. "He's well within his right to take me out if he feels that it will help the momentum of the game or if he didn't like the goals." Aside from an awful start against the New Jersey Devils on March 8, he's had a great month statistically, so he understands his pull from the game wasn't personal. "I don't take it that way," Mason said. "As a professional, you've got to take things with a grain of salt sometimes and work hard. Today is a new day. There's a lot worse things that could happen to me other than being pulled in a hockey game." He has the seventh best save percentage in the league at .925 and a goals-against average of 2.28, yet he still owns a 14-17-10 record on the year.
