A legitimate NHL prospect made another step towards a miraculous recovery from an illness that nearly claimed his life last year. 21-year-old Montreal Canadiens prospect Tim Bozon, who was selected by the Canadiens in the third round (No. 64) of the 2012 NHL Draft and was signed to an entry-level contract by Montreal on May 30, 2013, was assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League only eight months after a bout with Neisseria meningitis. Bozon took ill after playing a Friday night game for the Kootenay Ice in Saskatoon; Kootenay athletic therapist Cory Cameron quickly took control and had Bozon rushed to Royal University Hospital. He was diagnosed with meningitis and was placed in a medically induced coma the following day. He emerged from an 18-day coma and began rehabilitation, re-learning how to do elemental tasks and working on his speech, which was affected by the infection. The acute bacterial meningitis caused him to lose 40 pounds and left him with difficulty speaking and walking. After being discharged March 28, 2014, Bozon worked with the Canadiens training staff and began skating again early last June. He played one preseason game with Montreal and three with Hamilton in September 2014 before being sent back to junior. In 260 WHL regular-season games with the Ice and Kamloops Blazers, the native of St. Louis, Mo., had 140 goals and 294 points. Very impressive numbers. We hope he can get his promising career back on track.
