It seems that despite all the turmoil and questionable behavior surrounding Evander Kane, teams are still very much interested in acquiring the young forward. Many felt that the behavioral issues as well as his season ending surgery would put an end to the trade discussion until the offseason, but according to a report form TSN's Bob McKenzie that is not the case. More from McKenzie's original report:
But where it really gets interesting is there are three current playoff teams – Vancouver, Calgary and to a far lesser extent Washington -- who have legitimate, if varying, levels of interest in Kane as a pre-deadline acquisition. Yes, it's counter intuitive. A playoff bound team potentially giving up player or players off its roster now for a player who can't play until the fall. But the Canucks, Flames and Capitals have thought about it or would at least like to explore that possibility; Kane intrigues them that much. Vancouver would be at the top of that list.
Three teams with legitimate playoff hopes feel that making a move to acquire Kane makes sense despite the fact that they would likely weaken their roster by making the move. In the case of Vancouver and Calgary the move makes sense, the teams want to make the playoffs, but are in a position where looking at the long term future may outweigh their playoff hopes. One thing is for certain, with at least three teams involved this could have a direct impact on the playoff aspirations of all three clubs as well as the Jets, and could make for a very interesting trade deadline.
