With the news that NHL points leader Patrick Kane will be on the shelf for 12 weeks with a broken clavicle, the Blackhawks are scrambling to try and fill the enormous hole left by the superstar.
It is no secret the Blackhawks have their eye on Arizona Coyotes center Antoine Vermette, but a new name has surfaced as a potential trade target for GM Stan Bowman and co.
According to
Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago also has significant interest in acquiring Columbus Blue Jackets forward
Cam Atkinson.
Atkinson is a pending UFA and comes in with a relatively cheap cap-hit at $1.15 million. In 55 games, Atkinson has scored 13 goals and added 11 assists with 152 shots.
By placing Kane on long-term injured reserve, the Blackhawks now have some money to move around to acquire a rental in Kane's prolonged absence. Let it be known they are also actively looking for a reliable D-man as an addition, but the market for defencmen is scarce at the moment.

Would you like to see a relatively inexpensive rental like Atkinson join the team?
